O2 Consumer Interface

Before 5G was introduced widely O2 planned to offer this new level of on-the-go internet capability through a simple, plug-in USB dongle.

The task was to design an interface and user experience relevant for everyday users of all technical abilities. I undertook an analysis of the various different dongle options from the different potential suppliers to understand what they could offer - O2’s intention being to skin the underlying technology.

Wireframing the key information in a consumer interface

The major insight I uncovered was that I could use a combination of some very ‘dry’ technical data to illustrate much more useful on-the-fly data usage in a consumer-friendly way. This could be presented via an on-screen widget. As a product where what the consumer was buying was ‘time’, this constantly available information was of primary concern.

The work was undertaken as a wireframing activity before being skinned by a graphic designer in the brand’s existing look and feel.
